Play Skills

For children who

Children who are developing their play skills, including learning to play with a variety of toys and with peers and siblings; and parents interested in learning strategies to be more playful and fun with their child.

What we'll do together

  • We'll teach you how to capture your child's attention and join them in play
  • We'll support you and your child to find a range of toys and games that they enjoy
  • You'll learn how to embed skill development into your child's play (e.g., communication, motor, and turn-taking skills)

Communication Foundations

For children who

Children who require additional support with their expressive communication, including to communicate their needs and wants.

What we'll do together

  • We'll teach you evidence-based strategies to support your child’s communication, including how to request what they want, refuse things they don’t want, and ask for help
  • You'll learn how children develop speech, and where appropriate, we'll start to implement strategies to support learning first sounds, word approximations, and words

Emotional Regulation

For children who

Children struggling to regulate big feelings. They might have frequent meltdowns and need a lot of help to regulate.

What we'll do together

  • We'll work to understand the drivers of dysregulation for your child
  • We'll use evidence-based strategies to support your child to regulate and to develop an understanding of their emotions (e.g., Zones of Regulation)
  • We'll help to adapt daily routines and the environment to support your child's success

Positive Behaviours

For children who

Children who show challenging behaviours, such as aggression towards themselves or others, or self-injurous behaviour like head-banging or excessive scratching.

What we'll do together

  • Your coach will work with you to identify the root cause of the behaviour
  • We'll work with you to create a Positive Behaviour Support plan
  • We'll teach you how to implement the Positive Behaviour Support plan at home

Toileting

For children who

Children who need a little extra help to increase their independence including toileting.

What we'll do together

  • Your coach will help to assess your child’s current toileting skills
  • We'll work with you to create a toileting plan
  • We'll teach you evidence-based strategies to support toileting

Sleep

For children who

Children who find bedtime routines challenging, or may have challenges falling asleep independently or sleeping through the night.

What we'll do together

  • We'll work with you to create an environment and bedtime routine that encourages sleep
  • You'll learn how to support your child when they wake up at night time
  • Note, while many challenges with sleeping are improved with sleep environment and routine changes, we'll start by understanding if a referral to a sleep specialist sleep or medical professional is required (e.g., for Night Terrors, etc.)

Daily Self-Care Routines

For children who

Children who need additional support with self-care such as teeth brushing, hair brushing, getting dressed, bathing or washing hands

What we'll do together

  • We'll work with you to understand your child's current skills and sensory needs
  • We'll break down self-care skills (tooth brushing, etc.) into smaller steps that support learning
  • We'll teach you evidence-based strategies (e.g., task analysis, prompting, etc.) to support new skill development and progress

Social Communication

For children who

Children with foundational communication skills but are still developing social communication skills with peers and adults

What we'll do together

  • Your coach will teach you evidence-based strategies to use to build your child's back-and-forth conversation skills, such as sharing information about their day and communicating with their peers
